Stories of Us: Building Alberta's Collection

Content

December 18, 2025 – February 7, 2027

Collecting is something many of us do. Maybe you collect concert tickets, pressed flowers, or keepsakes from travels abroad. Every one of these objects captures a moment in time, telling the unique story of you.

Here at RAM, we’re collectors too. We collect objects that capture Alberta’s story so they can be shared with generations to come.

But have you ever wondered how museum curators decide which objects reflect what it means to be Albertan? How does a drum set, a horsefly, a llama foot, or a pair of sneakers capture the diversity, complexity, and growth of our province? How do we retell nature’s narratives that are as massive as a mountain, or as microscopic as pollen? How do we collect the intangible, a movement or memory?

In Stories of Us: Building Alberta’s Collection, you’re invited to enter the mind of a curator. Explore how RAM builds its collection, from natural specimens to rare treasures.  Learn how museums protect and preserve these histories. And, maybe, consider what stories your own objects may tell.

Visit Stories of Us: Building Alberta’s Collection in the Natural History Hall South Gallery from December 18, 2025 – February 7, 2027.
