The Royal Alberta Museum is a great place to learn! Register for a School Field Trip and strengthen your students’ appreciation for the people, places, and things that make up our rich province. RAM Field Trips are compliant with current Alberta curriculums for grades K-12.
All field trip experiences include:
- Access to the museum's permanent galleries*
- Group arrival and departure support
- A helpful orientation to help you explore the museum with confidence and courtesy
- A designated lunch space and time
- Storage space for coats and bags
*Our Children's Gallery is intended for children in Grade 1 and under. We ask classes Grade 2 and above to not attend the Children's Gallery during their visit. The Museum Shop and Cafe can only be visited by students with their adult chaperones.

Join RAM Learning staff for a guided field trip tailored to students in grades 2-6. Through interactive discussions and activities, students will deepen their understanding of Alberta and the people and landscapes that shape it. Our programs are curriculum compliant!
In addition to the list above, all RAM-Guided Field Trips include:
- A guided exploration of our Human or Natural History Halls, led by a RAM Learning team member (Approximately 60 to 75 minutes)
- A hands-on learning activity in a dedicated activity room
- Time to explore the museum after the program.

Want the freedom to explore the museum with your students at your own pace? A Self-Guided Field Trip allows your class to visit the galleries with the support of yourself and parent volunteers. You can tailor the experience to best fit your class' needs, the curricular outcomes you are focusing on, or a project you want to bring back to your classroom.
In addition to the list above, Self-Guided Field Trips include:
- An educational resource to support gallery exploration for K-12
- Available in both English and French. Please specify language at time of booking
- A little learners Museum Bingo card (Kindergarten - grade 1)

Students get their hands on history through our specialized kits, to hit key concepts and spark the love of learning in all who encounter them. Educators have the freedom to create their own lesson plans and activities with these great collection resources!

Program Fees and Payment.
Self-Guided Field Trips: | Grades 2 – 12: $125 | 35 students and 7 adults |
Pre-K – Grade 1: $45 | 35 students and 7 adults | |
RAM-Guided Field Trips: (approx. 60 – 75 min) | $250 per class | 35 students and 7 adults |
Object Kit rentals | $50 per kit | 10-day rental |
For the safety of all students and visitors, we ask that you maintain a ratio of 1 adult chaperone for every 5 students while at the museum.
How to book:
- Self-Guided Field Trips, RAM-Guided Field Trips, and Object Kits are booked online and are available on a first come first served basis. Greyed out dates mean we are fully booked.
- Museum School is booked through the Inquiring Minds program. Learn more on our Museum School page
- Bookings are available a minimum of two weeks before your field trip date.
- Payment by credit card is required at time of booking. We are unable to accept payment on the day of or after your program.
- Bookings are completed upon confirmation of credit card payment.
- You will receive an email to the provided preferred email address approximately 1 week prior to your booking with further information.
- To inquire about French language programming options, and bookings for Indigenous schools, please email our school booking officers.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellations must be submitted in writing via email to acsw.ramlearningtm@gov.ab.ca or by phone at 780-638-3831
- Cancellations or changes must be made 14 days before your program is scheduled.
- Cancellations made less than 14 days in advance will receive a partial refund of 50% of the cost of the program.
- No-shows or cancellations less than 48 hours in advance will forfeit 100% of their payment* Some extenuating circumstances may apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
We have limited bus parking available at our East entrance on 97 Street. If this area is full, we advise parking at a nearby privately owned parking lot.
RAM does not have onsite parking, however there are many privately owned parking lots within walking distance of the museum. For a full list of parking locations downtown please refer to this list: https://en.parkopedia.ca/parking/downtown_edmonton_alberta/
All programs include a 30-minute timeslot in one of our lunch spaces. Your lunch space will be specified upon arrival.
No. Each booking can accommodate only one class with a maximum of 35 students and 7adults. If you are planning to visit with multiple classes, you must book multiple programs.
Not at this time.
Our school programs offer a special educational service, available for an associated fee. You are welcome to come through regular admission, without the services provided to school groups.
Our programs are offered at a flat rate, and we are unable to provide partial refunds. However, if you simply want to bring a group to the museum, you can contact our Admissions team to inquire about a discounted group visit admission.
You are welcome to stay at the museum for as long as you would like to during our opening hours. We recommend that you stay for at least 2 hours to ensure that you can see all our galleries!
No, we are not a peanut-free facility.
Sensory Kits can be borrowed from the admissions desk free of charge. Each kit includes a pair of ear defenders, fidget toys, a map, and more. Learn more about our Sensory Kids and Maps here.
Lockers are available near both entrances to the museum for 25 or 50 cents.
Yes, RAM is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from the Admissions desk free of charge for the duration of your visit.
