On November 11, we pause in remembrance of the more than 118,000 Canadians who have died serving our country and the more than two million Canadians who have served, and continue to serve in times of war, conflict, and peace.

Join us as we welcome poet Dorothy Lowrie, daughter of George Aitken AFC, as she remembers her father's service. Aitken served as a fighter pilot in the RCAF during the Second World War. Hear poems written by both father and daughter and view some of Aitken’s personal objects that are now part of our Military and Government History collection.

Dorothy Lowrie:
Dorothy Lowrie is the youngest of the three daughters of George Dennis Aitken, AFC. With a lifelong love of and respect for all forms of the written word, Dorothy continues to be amazed at how her life has taken on a new aspect of growth and renewal through finding a pathway to express her life experiences through poetry. Dorothy is blessed with the inheritance of a love of story, poetry, and music. A student of history, Dorothy's poetry often reflects on her own family's history. Though her father passed away in 2011, Dorothy was certain that her dad would want her to share his story in this year of the centennial anniversary of the RCAF. An amateur poet himself, there seemed no better way than to write a story poem to share George's experiences as a Spitfire pilot in WWII.

This reading is included with your general admission. Admission is always free for CFOne members.
