People's Day

June 21, 2019, 10 am — 8 pm

Tan’si / Oki / Aba Washde / Gla’ne’te / Bozhoo / Halu / Hello!

Join us in celebrating Indigenous Peoples of Canada, as artists and performers from Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) and surrounding area fill our space with music, dance, storytelling and art.

As a traditional gathering place for the many Indigenous groups in the area, Edmonton’s present continues to be influenced by the history, languages and cultures of it’s first inhabitants.

Nowhere is this more clear than in our youth. One of our on-site demonstrations, “NISNITAN (Us Too)” features a hand-carving project by the iHuman Youth Society.

Listen to Native Flutist Amanda Lamothe, watch Edmonton’s Indigenous Artist-In-Residence Melissa-Jo Belcourt Moses and Dale Alexis Sr and Jr of the Alexis Nation present traditional crafts and teachings. Take in traditional dance, music and jigging performances. Join a guided tour of the Indigenous stories featured in our Human History Hall, or, learn Cree in the Children’s Gallery.

Performances and activities run all day, from 10 am – 8 pm. The full schedule can be found below.

Hiy Hiy / nitsíniiyi'taki / Ishnish / Mahsi cho / Miigwech / Nakurmiik / Thank you!
