The conservation department is tasked with ensuring the long term preservation of the museum's collections. This can be achieved through preventive conservation or treatment conservation.

Preventive conservation aims to enhance preservation by altering environmental parameters (such as relative humidity, light and UV, temperature and pollutants), as well as by maintaining Integrated Pest Management and good care and handling practices.

Treatment conservation aims to halt the processes of deterioration and/or to improve the condition of the object through active intervention with its material fabric.
