Supporting sensory needs at RAM

With all the lights, sounds, and crowds, museums can be overwhelming places. We want RAM to be a safe and welcoming place for all visitors. Here are some resources we offer for those with sensory processing differences.

Sensory Sunday

Sensory Sunday is an event for those with sensory needs and their families to visit the museum with adjusted gallery settings. This includes soft lighting, reduced noise and sensory activities, as well as a sensory room. Sensory Sunday takes place before the museum is open to the public (8—10 am) approximately every two months. Registration is required.

Next Sensory Sunday: November 10, 8—10 am

Important tips:

  • Limited space is available and preregistration is required. Please check your e-mail for a confirmation letter.
  • Payment is not required when registering. Regular General Admission rates will apply upon arrival.

Sensory Room – pilot project summer 2019

RAM's Sensory Room is a quiet space with low lighting and soft seating. The room provides a calm space for individuals with sensory processing differences who may find aspects of the museum experience overly stimulating. This is also a safe space for individuals looking for a place to recharge, reflect, or pray.

The Sensory Room is open during regular hours until October 27, 2019.

Share your feedback! We'd love to hear from you if you've visited our Sensory Room.

Sensory Map

Use this free map to find things you are interested in, while avoiding potential sensory triggers. Find everything from hands-on opportunities and snack-friendly zones to dark, quiet areas to take a rest. Ask for a copy at Admissions.

Sensory Kits

Grab a Sensory Kit to enhance your museum visit! Kits include a backpack with noise reduction headphones, sunglasses, fidgets, and a timer. Sensory Kits are available at Admissions and are free to borrow.
